PYPTUG Meeting - June 30th (Blaze, odo, [small, medium, big] data)

PYthon Piedmont Triad User Group meeting

Come join PYPTUG at out next monthly meeting (June 30th 2015) to learn more about the Python programming language, modules and tools. Python is the perfect language to learn if you've never programmed before, and at the other end, it is also the perfect tool that no expert would do without. Monthly meetings are in addition to our project nights.

NB: The monthly meetings are now held the last Tuesday of the month

What

Meeting will start at 5:30pm.

We will open on an Intro to PYPTUG and on how to get started with Python, PYPTUG activities and members projects, then on to News from the community.

Then on to the main talk.

Main Talk

Title: "Blaze: this data is on fire!"
by Francois Dion

BioFrancois Dion is the founder of PYPTUG, Dion Research and a Data Scientist at Inmar. In the few words of his blog's profile he is an "Entrepreneur, Hacker, Mentor, Polyglot, Polymath, Musician, Photographer"

Abstract: "Sir, step away from the spreadsheet! It has 40 billion rows!"

What would you do in this scenario? In this presentation, Francois will talk about how the Blaze ecosystem is making it easier than ever to look at our data, transform it and migrate it, no matter the location, format or size. The lightning talk that will follow will also cover part of the Blaze ecosystem.

 Lightning talks!

Don Jennings will start our lightning talk session with a presentation on odo. If you have to deal with a CSV file, JSON data, SAS files, a database, a dataframe, files on S3 or HDFS at some point this year, you'll want to hear about this.

After that, we will have some time for some more extemporaneous "lightning talks" of 5-10 minute duration. If you'd like to do one, some suggestions of talks were provided here, if you are looking for inspiration. Or talk about a project you are working on.
